Army Staff Sergeant Steve Bosson was deployed to Iraq with the 1st Cavalry Division's Delta Troop, 19th Calvary in 2004. After only months in the country on the night of April 11, 2004, his unit was called to examine a suspected ambush site near Baghdad. SSG Bosson was moving a rocket propelled grenade launcher from a wounded insurgent when the grenade went off. As a result of the blast his left leg was amputated.

During his rehabilitation at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas, SSG Bosson found out about the USOC Paralympic Military Sports Camp in San Diego, California. It was there that SSG Bosson first participated in sports since he sustained his injury a year earlier. It wasn't until he first shot a bow that SSG Bosson discovered his true passion for archery.

SSG Bosson is still active duty and currently trains in the Warrior Transition Batallion at Fort Sam in Houston, Texas. He resides in San Antonio, Texas with his wife Shasta and 4-year-old son, Jaydon Garrett James.
